Skills, Attributes And Employment development

In the first semester of the first year, we have four modules that we have to study. One of the modules that I am currently studying is “Study skills for computing”. In this module, we are taught to make blogs on different topics and give presentations. It will help me improve my writing and spoken skills and hopefully I will be able to outcome my biggest fear i.e. the fear of facing the crowd. I expect it to build my confidence for the job interviews that I will attend in the future.

Another module that we have to study is “Problem solving for IT”. It teaches us to brainstorm and use our mind to solve problems. In this module, we are taught to make flow charts, write Pseudo codes and algorithms, structure charts, IPO charts and solve problems using different techniques. We will be taught Ms excel from the tutorials that are to come and I hope to learn database management using these programs. From this module, I also expect to increase my thinking capacity which will help me to learn the programming codes better.

The third module that we have to study is “Logic”. It is related with mathematics and I have many problems that I have been dealing with from my school days. But there are new things taught in this module like the logical gates, truth tables, computer numbers, sets etc. I hope it will help me understand the programming codes better as it is essential while using different codes in programming.

Lastly, the fourth module that we have to study is “Introduction to Programming” which is also my main module. In this module, we are taught to use java programming using different codes of java in both notepad and bluej. I expect to learn to make programs using various codes and become one of the better programmers in the near future from this module.

My Achievements And Expectations

Though we were taught many subjects in school and college, the main achievements on my entry are Math, English and Computer Science that were taught to me when I was in school and college. All these subjects have made it easier for me to fit in Islington college and helped me understand the concept taught to us better and execute them in a better way. It has helped me to build my confidence while I am giving a presentation.

Whenever in the lab, when we do the programming, we have to find the circumference of the circle, areas of shapes like cube, cuboids etc in java programming, I feel glad that I was taught math and computer science in my school and college years as I can get the output much easier, quicker and accurate. In year 0, we had to give a presentation in Technology, we had given one of the best presentation as we were good in English and our presentation skills were good. Even in the solo presentation that we had to give in English, I received good marks and good compliments for my grammar and accent.

I received good marks in math, English and technology as I had a good base in these subjects.

Computers and Technologies have always been a part of my interest and is the main reason for me to join Islington College and choose Computer programming as my main course of study. Throughout these three years from my course of study, I expect to learn various programming skills and further improve my presentation. I would like to learn to make various webpage using different HTML tags and customize them using various multimedia skills. I hope to work for multinational companies such as Microsoft, Google, IBM etc as a computer engineer and support my family.
